Lulu & Co on Net-a-Porter
Founder of Fashion East, Lulu Kennedy, launched her label Lulu & Co in 2010. Today the label launches on Net-a-Porter, making it available worldwide for the very first time.
Lulu is overwhelmed with excitement: “The team and I will definitely have a glass of champagne at the ready and I will probably get quite hysterical as we click through our page and see how the team have styled the outfits!” She has described the collaboration with the premier online luxury fashion retailer as being similar to “entering into a partnership”.
As creative director, Kennedy recruits up-and-coming designers to team up on seasonal collections. The AW13 collection, which is called ‘Another Girl, Another Planet’, has an overall cosmic theme of star, planet and intergalactic prints, and features jumpers, t-shirts and graphic print dresses. Inspired by looking at a “wide range of retro space age references and integrating them” such as eighties Sci-fi slogans and images of an eclipse and the planets, the collection even features unicorns because Lulu loves “magical beings”. She is apparently a huge fan of the cartoon Charlie and the Unicorn and says that Katie Grand and Marc Jacobs introduced her to it. To come up with the images Lulu worked with Ferry Gou, a Sci-fi cartoonist who works with Major Lazer.
