10 Questions with Seinabo Sey

Stockholm born and raised, Seinabo Sey was always surrounded by artistry and creativity. From her Gambian father's renowned music to her obsession with Queen Bey, the Swedish artist was attending a musically gifted school at the age of 8.

Now, Seinabo is bringing us just what the world needs: empowered, soaring anthems that speak truth but feel good. The iconic ‘Breathe’ video garnered her a space in a whole new realm of artistry back in April, and the powerful ‘I Owe You Nothing’ embraced and celebrated her heritage – as did the 1.9 million viewers on YouTube. At 27, this killer single from Seinabo Sey emphasises her latest revelation, which the lyrics explain: “I don’t have to smile for you / I don’t have to move for you / I don’t have to dance, monkey dance for you.” Ready for her next step, Seinabo is keeping up the power: writing about womanhood, feminism, identity and body positivity in her new album, I’m A Dream, out Friday. We caught up with the Swedish-Gambian star to find out the answers to 10 big questions.
