10 questions with rising LA pop star to watch Madison Rose

The sound of the summer.

[M]adison Rose is the pop maximalist making sound (and style) waves this summer. The LA-based newcomer wanted to create “a kaleidoscopic ball pit of enlightenment,” with her debut single and music video ‘DIAMONDS’ (currently surpassing the 45k mark on Spotify), a catchy self-love anthem that featured a mega-mix of rainbow wigs, confetti cannons, colour-pop 90s garms.

“Growing up I was fortunate to be exposed to so many different facets of culture and I think it’s apparent in my style,” Rose tells Hunger. “You can bet that any outfit I wear will have some mix of colors, patterns, textures and time periods.” Heavily inspired by 90s hip hop icons, Madison recently collaborated with “The Godfather of streetwear” Karl Kani (loved by the likes of Biggie and Tupac), showcasing pieces from his vintage archives that fit perfectly into her technicolor frame of mind.

“Karl has the most fabulous use of color,” she explains. “And his clothing has such an effortless cool to it. He’s so supportive of young artists – I think he was excited to see what my point of view on his fashion would be. He offered me free reign in the Kani vintage archives and to style it how I felt and it’s just such blessing I got to take things and bring it into my rainbow realm.” Check out the exclusive shoot and interview with Madison below.

Describe your music in 3 words…

Technicolor, Electric, Outspoken

Who’s your greatest influence?

Beyoncé. Name a harder working person….she has the vision for her whole operation and works tirelessly.

Who’s the last person you called?

My mom.

What did you talk about?

How much I loved her and missed her. Things have been getting busier for me and I have less time to talk lately but that is the most important person in my life and I need her to know that

One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

My lime green Joyrich x Coca Cola bomber jacket.

One album you couldn’t live without?

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean.

What’s your favourite way to spend £10?

Probably a super fancy fruit tart. I have a big sweet tooth but not for simple candies.

How about £100?

Shoes. Or I wanna go to Lush! I’m a sucker for any sort of beauty or bath product.

Did you like school?

Honestly no. I felt pretty creatively stifled there and actually graduated high school early and chose not to go to college. But I’m not knocking it! I just think the school system doesn’t align for everyone and it’s important to know that you can inform yourself with relevant information to really weigh out the pros and cons of schooling and you may find you want to take a different path than the one  everyone is telling you to take.

Time or money?

Time. Specifically with people I love.
