A new exhibition at NYC’s MOMA will explore modern fashion history
Amongst other items the exhibition will feature Levi's 501s, a Wonderbra and a Birkin Bag.
A new exhibition to open this autumn at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, will explore the modern era of fashion, displaying over 350 items that are deemed to have changed the course of modern dress. Items: Is Fashion Modern? will include Nike Air Force 1s, a bottle of Chanel No.5, a Vivienne Westwood x Louis Vuitton bumbag and, inevitably, a pair of Levi’s 501s.
The cultural and historical connotations of each item – from the working-class allusions of blue jeans, to the refined glamour of Chanel No.5 – coalesce to tell the story of how fashion has explored class divide, incorporated heavy references to sport and athleticism, formed unbreakable links to music and subculture and reflected contemporary politics.
The exhibition will also include Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Le Smoking, Havaianas flip-flops, a Wonderbra and a Birkin Bag. See a selection of items from the show below and prepare to visit from October 1.
