Chanel SS18: PVC, perspex boots and return of the (rain) mac

Waterfall scenes inside the Grand Palais.

[C]hanel’s fashion forecast just in: transparent raincoats, perspex boots and waterproof fisherman’s hat’s are your spring / summer 2018 must-haves.

Karl Lagerfeld’s known for his giant sets (with the help of design supremo Stefan Lubrina), and this season was no different – this time transforming the Grand Palais into a Avatar-style utopia, constructing the building into a highly ‘grammable cave scene, with multiple waterfalls tumbling down and walls adorned with ivy and trees.

While AW17 celebrated all things space age, this collection was deep into nature. Yes the brand’s signature tweed co-ords in sea blue, earthy greens and mellow yellow were on display, but instead styled out with wet-proof accessories from footwear, gloves to ponchos. The fact that 16-year-old model of the moment Kaia Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s daughter and leader of the next gen fash pack) opened the show sent a clear message that the youthful collection – with tweed culottes, crop tops, Bermuda shorts and PVC jackets – was set to attract a younger market too, without losing the traditional Chanel spirit.
