Flowers, oranges and models, fashion photography by Chicago artist Wayne Scales

Blue-sky aesthetic --->

[W]ayne Scales is a photographer working out of Chicago. His blue-sky aesthetic and choice casting makes for some of the most inviting portraiture you’ll find on Instagram. He often uses natural light and interspersing his editorial images with abstract images of his environment so you’ll find oranges and flowers in his frames as well as models.

As part of this week’s series celebrating a new wave of creatives in Chicago, fellow photographer Jingyu Lin met up with Wayne to take some portraits.

Hi Wayne, what kind of people do you like to shoot?

I really don’t have a preference although I shoot models mostly because I feel that everyone has a story and a look that can be shot in many ways.

What has Chicago got that no other city does?

Good food and culture!

Where are we most likely to find you in the city?

West side Garfield Park area looking for some plant life at the Conservatory.

Can you tell us an image that had a amor impact on you?

The one of Chicago’s stylist Tyler Lambert that was actually featured on Teen Vogue‘s website. That image helped and moved me to do better when it comes to shooting people when it comes to using natural light.
