HUNGER PREMIERE: Ojerime releases empowered new EP

Self-made soulster Ojerime is switching up R&B for the modern generation. South London born and raised, she started making waves with her inaugural EP The Silhouette back in 2015 and hasn’t looked back. Dedicating herself to music since, her latest creation, 4U, is perhaps the most intriguing yet: with her signature 90s melodies and blend of electro-R&B glamour, she updates her style with the help of powerful lyrics. Documenting “the breadth of femalehood”, 4U delves into sexuality, empowerment, desire and loss: firmly anchoring her sound within black British womanhood, she lilts with hypnotising melancholy and sharp sense of self.

4U plants Ojerime in a new vein: innovative and experimental, the EP explores the performativity of femininity through her visuals and hones in on her personal evolution. Lyrically dropping in her homegrown idioms and playful nature, there’s certainly not many like her in music and she’s doing it with such conviction.
