Hunger Wants: G-Star RAW’s ripped boyfriend Jeans

Eco-friendly denim.

Premium and eco-friendly apparel is a minefield for many a designer (and consumer). Sustainable, organic, ethical – what do these buzzwords actually mean in planet fashion? For Dutch fashion brand G-Star RAW, producing jeans using recycling materials and using fewer precious natural resources to create a completely new material. In 2014, Pharrell Williams collaborated with GSR to create a denim collection made from waste plastic scooped up from the ocean. G Star’s new sustainable denim collection continues to help combat the growing issue of clothing and textile waste.

“Made with upcycled yarns from recycled G-Star RAW jeans, the denim garments have been collected, sorted and shredded to create a new fibre and yarns,” G Star says. “These were blended with just the right amount of organic cotton to ensure maximum fabric quality, versatility and further cyclability, thus creating a high-quality denim product with no added polyester, ready for cycling. By eliminating rivets and replacing the zippers with eco-finish metal buttons, G-Star RAW has made these jeans 98% recyclable.” Our summer pick from the collection? The ripped patchwork boyfriend jean – pair simply with a classic white tee. The best news? It’s now on sake. Get ‘em while you can…
