Following Jacob Banks’ monumental Live Lounge performance on BBC Radio 1 in January that saw him the first unsigned act ever to appear on it, he’s released his EP ‘The Monologue’ for free online and swiftly sold out his first headline show in London a month ahead of schedule.

He continues the hype by releasing his first video from the EP, a track called ‘Worthy’. It’s a pretty deep affair both lyrically and visually, something we’ve come to expect from the old heart of the young man – but Jacob’s trademark soul can’t help but overpower absolutely everything in it. When the drum snap comes in, it only reiterates the versatility of that voice: we get a faint lash of falsetto here too and it’s a quicker track than we’re used to from him but it works very nicely. The lingering piano outro may just point at where he’s looking to develop his sound but until we get another EP from the Birmingham prodigy, this will have to do. That is, unless you can catch him supporting BRIT-destroyer Emeli Sande on tour.
