It seems quite obvious where Julia’s going now. Following the success of “Issues” she released her aptly named EP Nervous System to praise across the board and is now hard at work on her full-length album. That, she says with a dry smile, could be tougher as the perfectionist in her is never happy. So what will it sound like? She shrugs. “I don’t know yet but ultimately my music is about being relatable, and about being vulnerable, and I think that is what resonates with people now more than anything – a human connection. “It sometimes feels like the only thing you hold close to you is your phone and I think that really weighs on people. That’s why emotional songs work so well – people are desperate for it.”
In our precarious times, with reason out the window, politics a circus, and social media turning us into a seemingly homogenous entity, Julia is something to believe in.
