Kendrick Lamar, Daniel Kaluuya, Danai Gurira, Tiffany Haddish and more have been invited into the Academy

It seems that time's really are a-changing in Hollywood, having thrown out the bad apples there's room for some fresh ones, and the Academy are welcoming them in.

Sending out a record 928 invites to members of the film industry, the group behind the Oscars are making an effort to boost diversity. In fact, 49% of invitees were women and 38% were people of colour, who came from 59 countries seeking to create a more representative Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Bearing in mind the recent criticism the Academy has faced for its lack of diversity, if everyone invited to join accepts, there would be 31% women and 16% people of colour out of over 9000 people.

Out of an insane number of talented individuals – encompassing acting to directing to music and beyond – some notable names include: Kendrick Lamar, Daniel Kaluuya, Danai Gurira, Tiffany Haddish, Timothée Chalamet, Kumail Nanjiani, Sean Baker, Daniela Vega, Mindy Kaling, Rashida Jones, Abigail Breslin and Trevante Rhodes.

The Oscar-granting body aimed to invite a greater and representative selection for 2018, and hopefully it will be a step in a new direction for Hollywood. Take a look at the full list of invitees here.
