Kris Kirk photographed the full calendar year of 2016 and it wasn’t the mess we remember it to be

It was actually pretty beautiful.

[W]e last featured LA photographer Kris Kirk to look at his extraordinary moments that zigzagged through life’s pockets of mundanity with some extremities thrown in too; beach furniture on fire, stick-n-poke tattoos during Spring Break and dogs wearing sunglasses, it made life look and feel as exciting as a dream, punk zine and weird porno all combined into one.

Kris’s new project is a book that documents the full calendar year of 2016. If you remember (and how could you not) it was a tumultuous time, one that will go down in history as a pastiche of political unrest, pop culture hyperdrive and Skai Jackson memes. Thankfully imbibing the year’s legacy with something a little more hopeful, Kris’s new book is a 256 page manifesto of black and white photography documenting the beautiful moments that we so easily forget, LA garage barbecues, a robot made from Budweiser cans, and lackadaisical kisses in the backseat of an aeroplane.

Featuring a hilarious and surreal transcription of text messages between Kris and artist Ami Komai as a foreword, 2016 is a pertinent reminder of what we lose when we fail to hit record. Follow Kris on Instagram @KristopherKirk and purchase 2016 here.
