Let Lara McGrath be your alt-beauty guide

Lara McGrath’s beauty mantra? "The face is a playground, why sit on the bench?"

The Bolton-born model and creative, who goes by her gram handle @thegoatdancer, is our new go-to feed for experimental makeup inspo. From high-octane 80s glam to neo-Victoriana drama, McGrath wants to break the beauty mould. In a HUNGER editorial, entitled ‘Sticky’, she’s collaborated with photographer Chris Reid to explore “the adhesive nature of most of the beauty looks.”
“I am heavily interested in an alternative approach to makeup,” Lara tells us. “We thought it would be really cool to move away from the focus on expensive designer beauty brands and explore what could be done with infantile craft products and toys you’d never see on Kylie Jenner’s Insta-story. In fact I think we spent £13 in Poundland to achieve these looks!”

“It was a really organic process,” she adds. “When it comes to makeup, the youth use is really drastic. My cousin is in year eight and has brushes that cost more than my phone bill. I wanted to rebel against this and take it back to childhood where maximalism is normality and imperfections are ignored because the enjoyment of the process is greater.”
