Pink, pastels and surreal portraiture from Maya Fuhr
All things bright and beautiful from the Canadian creative.
[F]or those who love a pastel dreamscape mood board on Instagram more than the next person – Canadian photographer on the rise Maya Fuhr is your next must-follow. The 28-year-old has worked for the likes of Adidas, Chanel and Vogue, showcasing a mix of abstract, colour-popping and sometimes “unconventional style” of fashion photography. Her aesthetic? “Bright and hopefully unpredictable,” Fuhr tells Hunger exclusively. “I got into taking photos when I was about 16, but I’ve hammed it up for the camera since I was a baby. Photography has always been my form of self expression and idea of reality. All my memories basically exist from childhood photos or photos I’ve created.”
“I recently went on a trip with my sister Zoë Fuhr and I’m really inspired by her overall essence – I took lots of photos,” she adds. “I like making ceramics these days too.” She’s currently gearing up for a solo exhibition in Toronto to continue her passion project Malleable Privilege; dissecting the fashion industry and the affects on the environment. “It’s a tongue in cheek retrospective of my personal interaction with it all.”
