See Gucci’s AW17 campaign starring intergalactic aliens
#GucciAndBeyond.
[Y]ou may recall that Gucci released a series of casting call style videos starring a bunch of aliens earlier this year. At the time, the story was quickly superseded by accusations of plagiarism as CSM womenswear student Pierre-Louis Auvray accused Alessandro Michele of lifting his alien aesthetic. The allegations were strongly denied by Michele, who immediately told Business of Fashion that he had no knowledge of Auvray’s work and that the alien characters were inspired by the 1950s space movies he watched on repeat as a child in the 1970s.
With that dust settled, the aliens have been recalled for a full AW17 campaign shot by Glen Luchford. Taking inspiration from cult sci-fi classics including Creature from the Black Lagoon and Forbidden Planet, the campaign sees the troupe of prosthetic-clad creatures wearing wide-brimmed Gucci hats and clashing, vintage-style prints.
There’s even a video, directed by Luchford, which features excellent set design, budget animation and “special effects” relevant to the era. Check it out above and see the full campaign below.
