Seven things we loved at Portugal Fashion Week

All the things that caught our eye in Lisbon and Porto.

[T]he best of Portuguese design and creativity was celebrated at the 39th edition of Portugal Fashion last week. Presenting 36 shows across four days in beautiful settings across Lisbon and Porto – the SS17 collections showed a scene thriving with craftsmanship, originality and innovation.

Here are 7 things we loved from this season’s shows…

David Catalan’s Sketch inspired collection

Playful, colourful and witty – David Catalan used the lush interiors at London’s Sketch restaurant as the inspiration for SS17. Pastel pajama suits and geometric print boiler jackets were on the menu, and we were seriously into it.

Neon slippers at Olimpia Davide

Finding inspiration from the colours and shapes of Turkey, Olimpia David explored structured silhouettes and assymetric shapes with a sporty attitude. But it was the neon slippers that were our highlight. You won’t be able to miss us strutting by you in these beauties.

Katty Xiomara’s pretty sailor girls

A nautical spirit shone through at Katty Xiomara, with references to sea creatures and seafarers, transparencies and laser cut outs. Fittingly presented outside in the amphitheatre of Porto’s cruise terminal – we loved the pretty collar details, coral tones and lace dresses.

Klar’s metal hoop motifs

The must have men’s accessory for SS17? A metal hoop. Wear it on a baseball cap or inject some casual swag into a pair of trousers by wearing it on the waist. Remember where you heard about it first.

Geek chic at Beatriz Bettencourt

Conveying the nostalgia and fun of childhood, Beatriz Bettencourt ‘s ‘Retrograde’ collection mixed geek chic with 70s silhouettes and sports references. We loved the intricately woven jackets, high-waisted shorts and cut-out shirts.

Sporty metallics at Hugo Costa

You know we’ve had a bit of a metallic obsession of late, so we were all about Hugo Costa’s unisex collection filled with silver bombers and shiny aesthetics. Special shout out goes to the basketball top and shorts.

Estelita Mendonça’s powerfully political designs

Emotive and provocative, Estelita Mendonça explored the human side of the refugee crisis. Using fabrics designed to counter the harsh conditions experienced at sea, and presented with a defiant energy – the show was powerfully framed by two models unified under one slogan – ‘Brave’.
