Tracing the evolution of cult 70s label Fiorucci

The iconic disco-friendly brand is back.

[“][W]hen I was twelve (in 1983) I moved with my family from the remote countryside of Northern California to 59th street and 5th Avenue in Manhattan – three blocks away from the New York City Fiorucci store. My life was never the same again,” Sofia Coppola writes in the new buzzed-about title published by Rizzoli, FIORUCCI.

The cult Italian label was the epicenter of fashion in the 70s and 80s for New York’s cool-girls; celebrating a mash up of florescent spandex, leopard print and ‘risqué disco’ dress in a post-punk era; everyone from Andy Warhol to Madonna were fans. Coinciding with the brand’s glittering relaunch – under the direction of Janie and Stephen Schaffer – this uber-colourful book features everything from unseen Polaroids of the atmospheric stores to the legendary Panini sticker album and the most iconic graphics and posters that came to define the brand’s identity, alongside interviews with Douglas Coupland, Marc Jacobs and Terry Jones.
