Hairspo: A guide to Chanel’s perspex ponies for SS18

Using a vacuum.

[Y]ou’d be forgiven for thinking ponytails are a bit ‘meh’. The I Can Do Nothing But Put My Hair Up option. That was until hair maestro Sam McKnight showed us that ultra-cool “Perspex Ponies” – for Chanel’s spring 2018 show in the Grand Palais today – are the way forward.

The plastic fantastic trend – see those Jimmy Choos at Off-White – has officially filtered through to the beauty world. And the rain-repelling hair look is actually pretty simple to create.

McKnight showed off his handy work in a neat Insta-tutorial, with model Binx Walton backstage (aptly titled: “How to fit a large pony into a small perspex tube”). Firstly, make sure the mid-lengths of hair is lowly-secured into a ponytail, with any fray ends doused with hairspray before encasing hair in Perspex tubes. Enter: the hair vacuum.

“To get the ponytails inside the tube perfectly, with no snagging, we sucked them in with a cleaner,” McKnight told Allure magazine. Using a vacuum backstage to create a major Chanel beauty look? T.I.M.E.S.A.V.E.R.
