d4vd – ‘Here With Me’

Houstonian alt-rocker d4vd had an impressive breakout in 2023 with his songs ‘Romantic Homicide’ and ‘Here With Me’, which both tapped into Gen Z and Alpha nostalgia for millennial alt-rock aesthetics and quickly turned him into a star. ‘Leave Her’ is an upbeat yet wistful reflection on the glamorization of relationships. d4vd croons about being in love with someone who doesn’t feel as strongly over a guitar loop dripping with hypnotising reverb and a rock-inspired drum beat. [‘Leave Her’] is based on a friend’s relationship and how I saw it turn out. It touches on the imbalance of love in their relationship and how he loved her way more than she loved him, resulting in him ultimately leaving her,” explained d4vd in a press release. Latto – ‘Sunday Service’

Latto threw on her Sunday best to hit the studio for her latest single ‘Sunday Service’ – and she’s taking any sceptics who may have doubted her straight to church. “I don’t sing R&B but, bitch, I’m really her, fuck wrong with n****s? How you let him cheat and take him back? Must be your only n***a,” she raps on the track’s chorus. “I get loud just like my weed, I don’t watch my tone with n****s.” ‘Sunday Service’ arrives after a few weeks of teaser drops on social media. One included a sneak preview of the single’s accompanying music video, in which Latto raps in front of a wall of images of other women in hip-hop — from Missy Elliot and Lil Kim to Sexyy Red and Ice Spice – all with their eyes covered with a black bar, her own included. With ‘Sunday Service’, Latto really is coming for everyone’s necks.

Conan Gray – ‘Lonely Dancers’

On Friday, the Gen Z pop star released his newest single, ‘Lonely Dancers’, just days after he announced his third album, Found Heaven. The Eighties synth-infused pop song, co-produced by Max Martin, ILYA, and Oscar Holter, hears Gray singing to another “lonely dancer” at a bar as he welcomes him onto the dancefloor. In the video, Gray stumbles upon his love interest kissing someone else and proceeds to dance away his troubles in a bar filled with frozen patrons. “Your lover left, broke up tonight, my lover’s busy, kissing other guys, we’re both alone now, tears in our eyes,” sings the artist as he sweeps across the room. “We’re lonely dancers, there’s no need to hide, we’re lonely dancers, baby, dance with me so we don’t cry.”

Shygirl ft. SG Lewis – ‘mr. useless’

On Friday, Shygirl releases her new EP, Club Shy, serving as an expansion of Shygirl’s signature club atmosphere. The project also includes standout single ‘mr. useless’ featuring SG Lewis, a mesmerising dance track Produced alongside Kingdom, Boys Noize, Karma Kid, Sega Bodega, and the aforementioned SG Lewis. Club Shy sees a new side to Shygirl as she leans into her deep-rooted affinity for club and electronic music whilst keeping true to her sultry persona. “mr useless” sounds like the younger sister of ‘Castles In The Sky’ by Ian van Dahl, where the listener is instantly transported to the thick humidity of mid-August nightclubbing in 2001; a remarkably transcendent listening experience.

K-Trap – ‘Heaven or Hell’

The new year kicked off on a high note for K-Trap as he earned his first BRIT award nomination in the Best Group category alongside Headie One for their 2023 collaborative album, STRENGTH TO STRENGTH. He is also adding to his accolades with another MOBO win at this week’s awards, for Best Drill Act. ‘Heaven or Hell’, his latest single, backed by production from Nathaniel London, sees K-Trap navigating the fine line between good and bad. In the accompanying video, captured by Don Prod, we are immersed in the portrayal of Trap’s parallel lives unfolding within two distinct rooms. It’s one of the more vulnerable tracks we’ve got from the artist over the years, and hopefully, it won’t be the last time we see K-Trap step out of his comfort zone.
