Meet the British-Slovene songstress creating unique alt-pop...

Now based in London, July Jones has been on a visceral creative journey since signing her first record deal at the age of 14 in Germany. A true Gen-Z star, she rose to fame after explosive YouTube success, turned down a scholarship to music school in Boston and did it alone instead. Having co-written for the likes of Sigala, JYYE and 1991, July Jones is now paving her own path and repping a new wave of multi-genre young artists. Passionate about using her platform for LGBTQI+ and mental health causes, July hopes to be transparent on social media and anthemises this in her new single ‘Liar Liar’. We meet the independent rebel to find out the answers to 10 very important questions…

Describe your music in 3 words…

Picturesque, alt, pop.

 

Who’s your greatest influence?

I am inspired by a lot of different elements that I see and hear, there is not one person in the world who I can point at and say I would like to be them, because I just want to develop myself. But of course there are a lot of artists that inspire me, Charli XCX with her fearless futuristic sound, Madonna with her incredible visual transitions, Banks, FKA Twigs, both amazing visual and musical artists, Halsey, Marilyn Monroe, Lorde and the list goes on.

What does music mean to you?

Music is my main outlet of expression. I think, eat, breathe and sleep music, it’s my whole life.

 

Who’s the last person you called?

My boyfriend.

What did you talk about?

I’m currently in LA and he’s in London, so mainly just how much we miss each other and we ate breakfast together over FaceTime.

 

One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

My chain necklaces

One album you couldn’t live without?

Rihanna – ANTI shaped a lot of my sound as an artist.

 

What’s your favourite way to spend £10?

Definitely food.

How about £100?

Clothes or tattoos.

 

What’s next for you?

I’ve just released my new single ‘Liar Liar’, and currently have upcoming 4 singles, every 2 months and after that, I’m dropping an EP. It’s really exciting putting out the work I’ve been working on for the past two years.
