10 Questions with Kate Stewart

Meet the singer-songwriter blending R&B and alt-pop.

Picture Mariah Carey was born in West London and raised in Maida Vale, and you might start to get a little close to imaging the vibe Kate Stewart brings to the music scene. Penning tracks for the likes of Tinashe, and singing vocals for MNEK’s Christina Aguilera record, the years have seen Kate move from strength to strength. In 2018, her debut EP, In The Beginning, saw the rising star rise to new levels, and there’s even more yet to come. We talk to the vibrant musician to see what’s up next, and just how powerful music can be…

Describe your music in 3 words…

Sensual. Calm. Smooth.

Who’s your greatest influence?

Whitney Huston. Mariah Carey. Christina Aguilera. I can’t pick just 1!

What does music mean to you?

Without sounding cringey… Music really is life. If ever I’m in a bad mood, music puts me in a good mood. If I’m sad, it makes me happy, if I’m hyper it makes me calm or vice versa! I truly don’t think I could live without it. I’m singing all day every day, I don’t know what I would do with my life if I wasn’t able to sing.

Who’s the last person you called?

My boyfriend.

What did you talk about?

Telling him to meet me in Soho!

One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

Crop tops.

One album you couldn’t live without?

Stripped – Christina Aguilera.

What’s your favourite way to spend £10?

Food, preferably McDonalds.

How about £100?

Clothes – vintage shops are my favourite.

What’s next for you?

My single ‘Get Mine’ has just come out. I have 2 more coming out this year, and potentially another project coming next year. I definitely want to do a tour and some more shows next year.
