10 questions with raw rising star Conrad

Get to know the London artist making waves with expressive creations.

Dropping ‘Bonfire’ this week, Conrad is proving that you don’t have to fit in boxes to step in the spotlight. Expressing his identity through emotive tracks, in his latest single powerfully explores vulnerability and powerlessness, two emotions breaking down toxic masculinity. Drawing together piano components with jagged baselines, Conrad blends his various influences seamlessly, creating a fresh, boundary smashing style.

As creative in his looks as he is in his tunes, Conrad works in his love of fashion into his music world, such as wearing custom Marc Jacques Burton (Migos and Future’s go to guy) designs in his videos. Burton described that he “instantly connected with how genuine he is about his music and how he writes from experiences he has faced that we can all relate to…the denim jacket we custom made is a reflection of Conrad’s inner thoughts”. We caught up with the sharp new artist to find out 10 very important questions, so get Conrad on your radar right now…

Describe your music in 3 words…

Soulful. Alternative. Pop.

Who’s your greatest influence?

It’s hard to pinpoint just one, but if I had to… Probably Michael Jackson – he was the greatest male pop star ever. When I was younger I used to sit and listen to his albums back to back on my dad’s old vinyl player. Sometimes I’ll listen back through, right from 70s/80s MJ, when I’m in need of some inspiration.

What does music mean to you?

Without sounding too cliché, music for me is an escape – when you’re a listener you can be taken to any place once you’ve got your headphones in regardless of whats going on around you. And as an artist it’s an amazing way to transfer emotions and thoughts into something that other people will be able to share and relate to…

Who’s the last person you called?

My Dad.

What did you talk about?

My single launch night which was the night before, how hungover I was feeling after it and where we were going to meet for lunch to hopefully cure this.

One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

My newly acquired MJB Denim Jacket, which can be seen in the Bonfire music video.

One album you couldn’t live without?

Get Lifted – John Legend

What’s your favourite way to spend £10?

Spotify.

How about £100?

10 months of Spotify… 🧐

What’s next for you?

I released my first single, Bonfire this week, which has been what feels like a long time coming. I’ve got a few more singles lined up for release over the next couple of months which I’m absolutely buzzed for… Then get out and play them all live as much and in as many places as I can!
