10 Questions with rising R&B soul singer Rai-Elle

Stormzy is a big fan.

South London born and raised, Rai-Elle is not your average X-Factor finalist, and she’s going to make sure it stays that way. Staying true to herself and her vibe, the soulful singer kept it real throughout the show, gaining support from none other than Stormzy.

Consequently signed a management deal with Finesse Foreva, as well as a record deal with MOVES, the home to UK afrobeat legends like Naira Marley and Belly Squad. Killing the game with her latest single, ‘KSB (Always On My Mind)’, she’s definitely going to be one to watch. We caught up with Rai-Elle to get to know the rising star and put her right on your radar…

Describe your music in 3 words…

Energetic, relatable, soulful.

Who’s your greatest influence?

My greatest influence has to be Beyoncé; she is an all rounder. I love how she always puts 110% into everything! Her songs are very powerful and the lyrical content is just legendary and her performances are always memorable.

What does music mean to you?

Music is a way to express and release emotions. My whole life revolves around music because whatever situation or mood I’m in, there’s a song or style of music that can relate. I love how music brings people together and creates a vibe.

Who’s the last person you called?

My friend Meshach.

What did you talk about?

We were on the phone talking about the latest trainers and their release dates. He’s really into fashion so he tells me about brands that I don’t even know about!

One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

I couldn’t live without jumpers! They just work with everything. You can dress them up with boots/heels or you can dress them down with some trainers and still look good when you step out.

One album you couldn’t live without?

I couldn’t live without Lauryn Hill’s album Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. That album has a song for every mood and I never get bored of it.

What’s your favourite way to spend £10?

I would spend it on either food or get my toes painted…

How about £100?

I would definitely spend it on trainers. I still shop in the junior section lucky for me!

What’s next for you?

I’m looking to bring out an EP in the near future and I’d love to do a tour!
