10 Questions with striking R&B star Dolapo

Meet the rising artist behind 'Blink of An Eye'.

Dropping her debut, ‘Blink of An Eye’, last month, Dolapo is ready to follow up the cult hit. Collaborating with WSTRN’s Louis Rei, the R&B singer-songwriter has brought us ‘DOWN’, a vibey new track which is as confident as it is intimate. Working her way up in the industry, Dolapo is behind the sounds and writing for some the UK scene’s most exciting new acts: MoStack, Tion Wayne, ZieZie, Young T & Bugsey to name a few. Ready to make a name for herself, Dolapo is working with some of underground music’s best, and setting herself up for a meteoric rise. We catch up with the rising star on the day of her new single, and ask her 10 very important questions…

Describe your music in 3 words…

Crazy, sexy, cool.

Who’s your greatest influence?

My Dad, before any musical influence… 100%. He taught me the most unbeatable tool of my life, how to graft non-stop. Whether it was at uni, in a job or my music career, he showed me how to put your all into everything you do. I feel lucky that my sisters and I got to witness such a hard-working person.

What does music mean to you?

Everything. The fact that I get to make music and write everyday definitely makes it an outlet for me, I feel very lucky to have that as my job. Also, just as a listener, being able to have so many different vibes that you can run to for different moods just makes it one of the best things in the world.

Who’s the last person you called?

Someone on my team, sorry to be boring lool. We’re family so we’re always on the phone, texting or emailing about SOMETHING!

What did you talk about?

Ahhh just handling business. I feel like my phone is 95% business. I just about have a personal life but I ain’t complaining, I love what I do.

One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

Tracksuits (or at least jogging bottoms)!! I’m a studio hermit so I want to be comfy 24/7 and they feel like my bed outside of bed.

One album you couldn’t live without?

Just One?! I think this has to be Aaliyah’s I Care For You album. I remember falling in love with this when I was younger. It was probably one of the first albums I really took in as I was so young. I’m just as much of a fan of her other albums like Aaliyah and One in A Million but I was too young to know about the others at the time they came out and I Care For You led me to those.

What’s your favourite way to spend £10?

FOOD! I’m one hell of a foodie, some roti, curry goat and coleslaw; Some steak & cheese tacos or some peri-tamer thighs from Nando’s… this list could go on and on

How about £100?

Makeup! I’m obsessed with it, can never have too many foundations or eyeshadow pallets. However, I’m indecisive so I also want to say The Sims 4 expansion packs…

What’s next for you?

More music… I plan on putting an EP together early next year with a few features on there. I also hope to have a few co-writes for some of my favourite artists.
