Add Rob Grant to your sad girl summer playlist — Lana Del Rey’s dad is dropping an album

Lana Del Rey, daughter of Rob Grant, says “I mean let’s get real – he’s always been the star.”

Lana Del Rey  is reversing nepotism as she plugs her Dad’s new music to fans. On Thursday, Rob Grant revealed that he will debut his album Lost at Sea on the 9th of June, with his very own Del Rey-esque album cover. Though uncertain as to whether his inspiration was the Norman Fucking Rockwell cover art (they do look very similar), Grant is fulfilling his own musical destiny with the support of his successful daughter. How wholesome.

His album will compromise mainly of piano songs, and the first single ‘Setting Sail on a Distant Horizon’ is set to be released on Friday at midnight. Just before his announcement, Del Rey took to Instagram to tell her fans that “This is either gonna be the beginning of something beautiful or take us all down… May the force be w all of us. I mean let’s get real – he’s always been the star [sic].”

Two of the songs on the album will feature his daughter’s vocals, much to the delight of her fandom. In a statement from Grant, he says wrote the first release about the “happiness and freedom I felt” while sailing his boat. A press release for the new album says Grant is “an accidental recording artist” who has “never had a lesson on any instrument in his life.”

The album’s release will come after Del Rey’s highly anticipated Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd in late March. As the ‘Summertime Sadness’ singer manages her own cult of die-hard followers, it would seem Grant is going to have a few fans of his own, as singer Kesha’s mum tweeted “Is he single?” following the announcement.

So as Grant prepares to sail his way to stardom with his daughter in tow, we wait in excitement for the first release of ‘Setting Sail on a Distant Horizon’. Is it too early to confess our love for Rob Grant?
