Alexander McQueen unveils ‘The Slash Bag’ in new sci-fi short starring Kaia Gerber

Fashion photographer Glen Luchford serves up a dystopian backdrop for the brand’s latest launch.

Kaia Gerber is the star of Alexander McQueen’s sci-fi-inspired short celebrating the release of the brand’s new Slash Bag.

The model recently ventured into the world of acting in 2021, joining the cast of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Stories. Now, she returns for a sharp-cut Alexander McQueen short film, where her acting chops are fully displayed.

The clip was directed by fashion photographer Glen Luchford and sees Gerber clutch the new red leather Slash Bag safely under her arm. The striking accessory comes with a distinctive top flap alongside McQueen’s signature knuckle duster hardware and a crystal skull. It is also available in white and black colourways and is a new addition to McQueen’s SS23 women’s pre-collection.

Having made her way through a few creepy corridors, Gerber finds herself in an infinite white space. Four prosthetic heads appear, three with upper bodies and arms, awkwardly skewered on white poles. Gerber locates her own prosthetic face, which she then caresses before staring into the camera and quietly crying. The doppelganger then opens its eyes and the room goes black. It’s all very disturbing.

A statement from the brand suggests it is about the “juxtaposition between humanity and technology” and “human emotion within a futuristic landscape.”

Other new items for spring/summer 2023 women’s pre-collection include the Jewelled Hobo bag, crafted from smooth calfskin leather and adorned with glittering, Swarovski-encrusted rings.
