‘All Quiet On The Western Front’ leads this year’s Baftas with record-breaking 14 nominations

‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ and ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ follows closely behind with 14 nominations.

The Baftas have announced the nominees for this year’s ceremony taking place on February 19th. All Quiet On The Western Front leads the way with no less than 14 nominations, including best film, director, supporting actor and adapted screenplay. The German drama ties with Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon as the film with most nominations not in the English language.

Following closely behind is Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin alongside Daniel Kwans and Daniel Scheinart’s Everything Everywhere All at Once – which both received 10 nominations.

The Banshees of Inisherin has also landed Irish actor Colin Farrell his first Bafta nomination in the leading actor category for his role in the black comedy, where he stars alongside Brendan Gleeson. Its other nominations include outstanding British film, best director, best original screenplay and best-supporting actor for Gleeson and Barry Keoghan – and best supporting actress for Kerry Condon.

Farrell faces stiff competition in the leading actor category from Austin Butler (Elvis), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Paul Mescal (Aftersun), Bill Nighy (Living) and Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande).

The leading actress category is also hotly contested with Cate Blanchett (Tár), Viola Davies (The Woman King), Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Dame Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), Ana de Armas (Blonde) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till) all up for the prize.

Meanwhile, it was announced on Tuesday that Sex Education stars Emma Mackey and Aimee Lou Wood, Naomi Ackie, Sheila Atim and Daryl McCormack were all nominated for the EE Rising Star Award.
