At least 23 killed after suicide attack at Kabul education centre in Afghanistan

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, say police.

A suicide attack at a tuition centre in Kabul, Afghanistan has killed at least 23 people and injured many others, police say.

The explosion happened inside the centre in the Dashti Barchi neighbourhood of Kabul, said Khalid Zadran, the Taliban-appointed spokesman for the Kabul police chief. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

A number of those living in the area where the blast occurred are from the Hazara ethnic minority, which has been targeted in previous attacks.

“A blast took place inside an institute, the blast has [caused] casualties,” Kabul police spokesperson Khalid Zadran told Reuters. Security officials had arrived in the area to investigate, he added. A witness who also spoke to Reuters anonymously said a suicide attacker had detonated explosives.

Since taking over Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban have claimed that they are securing the nation after decades of war, but recent months have seen a series of blasts at mosques and civilian areas.
