Bklava’s UK Garage Essentials

Kickstart the week with a high-energy playlist from the DJ and producer.

A singer, writer, producer and DJ, Bklava has an array of musical talents up her sleeve. Embodying a DIY ethos in her production, the South London-raised talent has broken through on the dance music scene with a high octane blend of garage and house, packaged up with a pop flair.

With acclaim from the likes of Annie Mac, Toddla T and DJ Target and signed to the legendary Ministry of Sound, Bklava has cemented herself as a singular voice within the industry, rousing club-goers with her infectious sound.

For HUNGER, the musician has pulled together an exclusive playlist of infectious UKG classics to get you grooving and prepare you to ease out of the weekend and tackle the challenges of the new week. The selection features tracks from the likes of garage legend Wookie, speed garage duo 187 Lockdown, east London innovator Masterstepz, and comes hot off the heels of Bklava’s remix of 1998 2-step track “Hyperfunk”, released last week.

Speaking to HUNGER about the remix of Antonio’s beloved UKG song, Bklava said; “So excited to share my remix of an absolute classic from Locked On [Records]. The original is still one of my favourite UKG records, I’ve been playing it for years and it’s one of the first tracks I burnt on a CD to practise spinning on the decks!”

As she explains, the unique texture of the record was a guiding force for the curation of her HUNGER playlist. “‘Hyperfunk’ is stripped back but also complex, it has that charm that a lot of UKG tracks embody where it’s all about the shuffle and the swing with the main focus on the drums, bass and then touching up on melodic elements to compliment it all,” Bklava explains. “All the songs I’ve chosen here have that in common!”
