Celebrating the Chaos, Creation and Legacy of Franca Sozzani

A new tome offers a glimpse into the world of fashion's favourite matriarch.

“She was not just ahead of our time. She was ahead of our courage in so many ways,” Anna Wintour movingly said of her long-time friend and colleague, the late, great Franca Sozzani. A creative leader like no other, during her three-decade tenure as editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, Sozzani was unafraid to call out global, sometimes contentious, themes other publications would oft avoid – from domestic violence to drug abuse and recovery. Always decoding fashion through a cultural and political lens, in July 2008, Sozzani’s team unveiled an “all black” issue of Vogue Italia and was lauded for her efforts to be incisive yet inclusive.

Featuring photos from both Ms Sozzani’s personal collection and archives, quotes from the likes of Donatella Versace, Anna Wintour and Suzy Menkes and expansive information on her work, ‘Franca: Chaos and Creation’, published by Assouline, is a fabulous and thought-provoking tribute to an industry icon.

Proceeds from this book will also benefit the campaign to fund the Franca Sozzani Chair in Preventive Genomics at Harvard Medical School and alongside this project Yoox.com will also be selling Franca’s wardrobe online with all proceeds benefitting the campaign.
