Check out the site that helps you avoid creeps’ films

At the moment finding a good guy in Hollywood feels like finding a needle in a haystack.

Just when you put your faith in a film, you find it’s starring or from the backing of some bad guy or another. Whilst not everyone believes in separating the art from the artist – as Woody Allen fans love to promise, attempting to quote Barthes as they protest – it’s refreshing to know there’s now a way to decide what to boycott. Announced yesterday was Rotten Apples, a site created by a group of friends who are all very anti-creeps.

Described simply as “a searchable database that lets you know whether or not a film or television show is tied to a person who has been accused of sexual misconduct”. Or, a bit more abruptly by one of Rotten Apples’ co-founders, it “tells if the movie or tv show you’re interested in is tied to an alleged shitbag”, although “by no means is this site meant to serve as a condemnation of an entire project”. By naming which castmember, screenwriter, executive producer or director is allegedly responsible, the aim is to “shine a light on the few individuals who should be held accountable” and “to further drive awareness of just how pervasive sexual misconduct in film and television is”. You too can let them know if you spot a missing creep from the database, and can find your Fresh Apples to adjust your ‘best films of 2017’ lists accordingly.

Check out the site here now.
