Chris Brown announced for Wireless Festival — and fans are furious

It will be his first performance in the UK in 13 years since being banned for assaulting Rihanna.

Many fans were left angered after Wireless Festivalrevealed their latest addition to their Crystal Palace and Birmingham events. The singer, Brown, is said to have been banned by many countries, including the UK, after he assaulted his ex-partner Rihanna in 2009. His visa was reportedly denied in 2010 when trying to enter the country; however, that ban was lifted in 2020.

“You asked? We deliver… ALWAYS,” a message from the event’s official Twitter account reads. “For the first time in 12 years… @chrisbrown will return to the UK to shut down Crystal Palace and Birmingham.”

Many festival goers were furious at Brown’s inclusion with one Twitter user stating “Everyone loves cancel culture when it comes to cancelling women yet chris brown has just been announced to headline wireless and has a career at all???? Absolute freaks that support that disgusting violent man [sic].”

Another tweeted: “I’m actually fuming that Chris brown has been announced for Wireless, the man is an ABUSER, how has he been allowed to continue on this level??? He shouldn’t be given this platform [sic].”

Although some people had the complete opposite reaction to his inclusion: “Chris Brown at wireless!??? I have never bought a ticket so fast without looking at the rest of the lineup.”

Strangely, A$AP Rocky is also featured on the lineup as a headline act and is set to perform on Friday 1st June – the same day as Brown. However, it is not known whether Rocky will be allowed in the UK due to his alleged connection to a 2021 shooting. Recently, Brown caused controversy by congratulating Rihanna and Rocky on their newborn baby via an Instagram story.

Wireless festival is set to run from July 1-3 at Crystal Palace and July 8-10 at Finsbury Park and Birmingham.
