Christina Ricci returns to The Addams Family in ‘Wednesday’ trailer

The 2022 series by Tim Burton introduces Jenna Ortega to play the family's eldest daughter, and brings back the original Wednesday in a new role.

King of gothic fantasy and horror Tim Burton is the perfect director for the new series Wednesday, which will hit our small screens on November 23rd. As an ode to her character in the 1991’s The Addams Family, and 1993’s Addams Family Values, Christina Ricci is brought back as Miss Thornhill, Wednesday Addams’ new teacher at her school Nevermore.

The series has been highly anticipated since it was announced back in March, with rumours swirling about which characters will return and who will fill the classic roles. Fans were delighted to see the return of Ricci and excited to see Jenna Ortega play Wednesday Addams. Wednesday will follow the “sleuthing” of the “supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’s years as a student at Nevermore”. With her signature ebony pigtails, the episodes will navigate her student life with the added issues of psychic abilities and the looming questions of the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years prior.

The straight-faced Jenna Ortega casts an odd creepy grin in the trailer, as she is joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones as her mother Morticia and Luis Guzmán as her father Gomez. Uncle Fester returns, played by Fred Armisen, and Burton recruits long-time collaborator and costume designer Colleen Atwood to deck the series in a perfectly skewed tribute to the family’s famous romantic-gothic getup.

With the news of Ricci’s return and the buzz surrounding Ortega’s new character, we can’t wait for Halloween to be over and for it to be November 23 — the date when the series premieres on Netflix. Like Wednesday says in the trailer: “I know the suspense is killing you.”
