Clio Peppiatt and leading female artists design t-shirts with a cause for ActionAid

London's leading creative female icons and vital charity team up to help all women say #MyBodyIsMine.

In a world of infinite drops and fast fashion, sometimes we can forget the power our clothes can have. Especially when a not-for-profit international charity who work with women and girls in 45 countries around the world make them. Demanding that women are granted the right to control their own bodies – a demand which is far too unfulfilled across our world even in 2019 – ActionAid fights to ensure women and girls voices are heard.

Collaborating with the likes of Laura Callaghan, Clio Peppiatt, Patternity, Poppy Chancellor and Ruby Taylor, all women worked to create a captivatingly unique t-shirt based on the campaign My Body Is Mine. Designed from the powerful female gazes, these five creative powers shine a spotlight on equality, autonomy and safety for all women.

As ActionAid explained:

“1 in 3 women worldwide will experience violence in their lifetime. Beneath this violence is a common idea: that women and girls’ bodies are the property of men, for them to exploit and control. We want women and girls worldwide to reclaim their rights to their bodies; manage their periods with dignity and not let their periods hold them back and say #MyBodyIsMine.”

Not only are the artistic tops spotlighting such a prevalent, global issue, they raise money for ActionAid’s vital work helping survivors recover and keeping women safe. As London’s Laura Callaghan described, “I wanted to show a woman enjoying being in her own skin, in a moment of solitude, far away from harm…That’s what #MyBodyIsMine means to me – being confident, safe, and in control of our own bodies.”
