Come on Barbie let’s go party: the film’s official soundtrack has been released

This Thursday, the tracklist for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film has been announced, featuring new music from some of pop’s most famous names. Barbie the Album is set to feature tunes from Lizzo, Charli XCX, Ice Spice, Haim, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, and Dua Lipa – a pop princess fest!

Dua Lipa, who will be a mermaid in the new film, will release a new disco-style song called ‘Dance the Night Away’, which will also be the first single of the soundtrack out this Friday. She teased the song on her Twitter with a music video snippet showing her stepping out of her stilettos with her Barbie doll-esque feet as she blows a kiss at the camera.

The teaser for the LP album was announced by Rolling Stone and reposted on the movie’s Instagram page, and showed the cover with lead Margot Robbie holding up a Barbie newspaper with the artist names plastered on the front. 

Fans are uber excited about the lineup, saying it will be the “soundtrack of the year. “I’m crying y’all really thought they were about to do a Barbie soundtrack without THE Barbie? Lmao please stop playing with Nicki Minaj,” says one fan, with many agreeing the rapper’s song will be the ultimate “serve”.

The executive music producer is none other than Mark Ronson, who has produced some of the best tunes around, like ‘Valerie’ with Amy Winehouse and ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’ with Miley Cyrus. Others on the list include Dominic Fike, Khalid, The Kid Laroi, Tame Impala, and Ken himself, Ryan Gosling, who has previously shown off his voice in films like La La Land. 

But that’s not even the final list, with a line at the bottom reading “more Barbies and Kens to be announced.” Possibly an Aqua reunion with a ‘Barbie Girl’ remix? We will wait for the official release – with Barbie and Barbie the Album both out on the 21st of July.
