HUNGER slides into the musician and fashion muse's DMs to talk TikTok, Bratz and memes.
With just two solo singles under her belt, few artists are as hotly tipped as Lagos-raised rapper Deto Black. Not only has she already collaborated with the likes of Skepta, Unknown T, Lancey Foux, Odunsi (The Engine) and Amaarae, she’s a fashion icon in her own right, serving as a muse to cult designer Mowalola and starring in Theophilus London’s Off-White campaign.
As she drops new track “Brag” we slide into her DMs to talk Bratz, TikTok and her favourite meme.
@hungermagazine: What’s your earliest Internet memory?
@detoblack: Going to my friends house for our Bratz doll play date one day only to realise they’d moved on to internet games.
@hungermagazine: What are your five most-used emojis?
@hungermagazine: You’ve switched to private mode on Spotify: what are you listening to?
@detoblack: “Rooting for My Baby” by Miley Cyrus, “Experience” by Victoria Monet and “Tesla” by Deto Black.
@hungermagazine: Do you use dating apps? Which ones?
@hungermagazine: Have you ever been blocked?
@detoblack: I guess so
@hungermagazine: Last person you stalked on IG?
@hungermagazine: What’s your most-used app? Why?
@detoblack: Tik Tok causeI go on there to watch one video then spend hours scrolling it’s so funny.
@hungermagazine: What’s the longest you can go without being on your phone?
