Elliot Page says his life has ‘improved drastically’ since coming out as trans

The actor returns to the small screen for the first time since he came out as transgender with Season 3 of Netflix's ‘The Umbrella Academy’.

In a rather unprecedented move, The Umbrella Academy  responded to Page’s  transition by announcing that his  character Vanya Hargreeves will also transition to Viktor Hargreeves in Season 3, which debuts on June 22.

Page, 35, opened up about his transition on Tuesday’s episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, saying that  his life has “improved drastically.”

Page came out as trans in December 2020, and it was initially revealed in March 2022 that his Umbrella Academy character will transition as well.

When asked if he got to speak with the writers, Page said that The Umbrella Academy co-creator/showrunner Steve Blackman is, “incredible’ and ‘such a wonderful person.’

“When we first talked about it, he seemed really excited about incorporating it into the show,” he told Meyers. Page added he has been reflecting on “very difficult times in my life, certain struggles and obstacles and all that and I think ultimately getting through that it really deepens your empathy.”

“I think of the times in my life where I was the most uncomfortable. Where I was the most unwell, those were the times where I was the most angry. And I was the most unkind to myself or self-righteous or all of those things. It’s improved my life drastically,” he continued. I hope maybe people who do have an issue with me could maybe try and hear that and embrace that on some level.”
