Enter the weird and wonderful world of Walter Van Beirendonck at this season’s mens show

A zesty squat rave in outer space

We were transported to a zesty squat rave in outer space at this season’s Walter Van Beirendonck show. “When working out new collections, I like to wander around the ever-expanding universe I set up in my mind,” a wanderlust at heart, Van Beirendonck explains how this season is one of the most encompassing and illuminating yet.

“This time, I visualized making a trip visiting my longtime friend and outer-space avatar Puk-Puk. (I’m sure you remember him: nice and nasty with a cute d–k.) As we caught up, I pictured being introduced to a small part of the alien folk, a community with such a limitless diversity of forms and looks, I got jolted into designing ‘Witblitz,’ my spring 2020 collection.”

Plastic halo jackets, laser cut jersey tops under jacquard blazers, fishnets under patchwork mult-print board shorts, ballon pants in vinyl and rainbow confections dotted about the garments and reflective in the hair an makeup. If this doesn’t remind you of crawling out of heaven at 5 am on a Thursday in search of the nearest maccie D’s then I don’t know what is.
