When Drake, 35, announced his latest album Honestly, Nevermind would be dropping in just a few hours the internet went into meltdown. One excited fan said “DRAKE DROPPING TONIGHT? I’ll know every lyric by Monday”.
The excitement was warranted, arguably the biggest star in music was dropping an album just 9 months after his critically panned album Certified Lover Boy. It seemed he was aiming to make things right and give us that classic Drake album we’ve all been waiting for. Not to mention, the last time he released a surprise album was 2015’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, which many consider the rapper’s best project to date.
So, it seemed like the stars aligned, there’s no way this could fail, right? Well, now that the project is here, it’s safe to say Drake probably won’t be searching his name on Twitter for a while. The star most certainly shocked everyone, but not in the way he hoped. The album is a massive left turn for the Canadian as he incorporated elements of house and electronic music. One user said on the drastic change of direction “Is Drake trolling us?”.
However, there are some positives on social media if you dig deep enough, with one user writing “This new Drake album #HonestlyNevermind will find its audience,” one fan wrote. “It’s not typical of him but there’s quality there. Made for a different audience.”
