Gwyneth Paltrow responds to wellness routine going viral for promoting ‘disordered eating’

Following criticism of her “intermittent fast” routine, 50-year-old Paltrow has now spoken out against the backlash.

Actor and businesswoman Gwyneth Paltrow has now responded to her wellness routine and diet hitting headlines. During a Q&A session with Dr. Will Cole on an episode of his The Art of Being Well podcast, she opened up about her “intermittent fast” routine. This consisted of dinner at 6pm, and not eating until 12pm the following morning when she would have coffee or celery juice. She then exercises for one hour, jumps in her infrared sauna, and has some soup or bone broth for lunch.

Many users and dieticians on TikTok jumped to response, stating that Paltrow’s diet was not a sustainable source of energy throughout the day, and was promoting disordered eating habits.

On Friday, Paltrow took to her Instagram story to make an important note about the podcast. She said that Dr. Cole, the presenter of the podcast, was her own doctor and helped her after she had experienced post-COVID symptoms. “This is a person I’ve been working with for over two years now to deal with some chronic stuff,” said the Goop founder. “The way it manifests for me is very high levels of inflammation over time so I’ve been working with Dr. Cole to really focus on foods that aren’t inflammatory.”

Her diet consists of “cooked vegetables, all kinds of proteins and healthy carbs” specific to her own “medical results and extensive testing” to combat her inflammation. She made clear this was not a diet she was recommending to others. “This was a transparent conversation with me and my doctor,” she said. “It’s not meant to be advice for anyone else. It’s really just worked for me, and it’s been very powerful and very positive.”

Her goal has been to “try and eat healthy and eat foods that will really calm that inflammation down.” Setting the record straight, she explained that “this is not to say that I eat this way, all day every day. By the way, I eat far more than bone broth and vegetables. I eat full meals, and I also have a lot of days of eating whatever I want and eating French fries and whatever. But my baseline really has been to try to be healthy and eat foods that will really calm the system down.”
