Gwyneth Paltrow will stand trial following ‘hit-and-run’ ski crash last year

The actor and Goop founder will take to the stand after claims she collided with a skier and walked away.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s trial will begin today after she was sued for a ‘hit-and-run’ ski crash in 2016 at Park City, Utah. Retired optometrist Terry Sanderson claims that Paltrow was skiing downhill at the Deer Valley Resort when she collided with him and skied away.

The lawsuit was filed in 2019 and originally sought $3.1 million in damages. Following a report by Deseret News, Sanderson was left with a brain injury, concussion, and broken ribs. He alleges that there was also an instructor behind the two when the crash took place who filed a false report with the ski resort blaming him for the crash. The amount will now be set during the jury trial.

After speculation as to her standing, Paltrow told the New York Post she will now testify. The trial is scheduled to last eight days altogether, and both parties must be present throughout the duration. A month following Sanderson’s filing, Paltrow also filed a counter lawsuit seeking ‘symbolic damages’ of $1 plus legal fees and any other amount to be donated to charity.

However, this isn’t the first time Paltrow has faced claims over an alleged collision, as a couple in 2000 attempted to sue her after she rear-ended them in a rental car. The outcome of the case was not available, but the couple claimed they were left with injuries.
