Haider Ackermann x FILA sees the tailored designer take on sportswear

Ackermann proved it’s time for a new era for FILA as style meets comfort.

In the least-expected collab of the year, Haider Ackermann put on a display of track pants and streamlined trainers in Manchester last night, with a rainbow of sports leggings and tight-fit tops. It took the staple designs of FILA to a new level.

Ackermann was confirmed to be Jean Paul Gaultier’s new couture collaborator in late September, just days after his namesake brand announced they would be collaborating with FILA.

The collection debuted in Manchester, with stars like Chloë Grace Moretz and Andrew Garfield in attendance. His usual designs are defined by romantic tendencies and tailoring and have been worn by the likes of Timothée Chalamet and Tilda Swinton. In this collection, the designer subverted expectations by working with the sportswear giant but remained dedicated to his love of refined style.

The brands showed a collection featuring menswear, womenswear and accessories that were revealed in the special show. “I was extremely surprised when I was contacted by FILA with the idea to collaborate,” said Ackermann in the press release.

“In visiting the extensive FILA archives I was struck by how elegant sportsmen were on the playing field back in the day. My aim is to elaborate on that, keeping the feeling of unexpectedness that is so important for me.”

The display proved the unexpected marriage was a pairing well-made, and in anticipation for the release of the collection, was an exciting insight into the mind of Ackermann. In all his new projects, he continues to surprise and innovate, successfully reimagining FILA sportswear by injecting his signature flair.
