Haiku Hands Are Very Online

To celebrate their latest single, the Aussie dance-pop trio walk us through their Internet obsessions of the minute

Eclectic and genre-melding, you’re as likely to see Haiku Hands playing a gallery opening as you are to see them on stage at an underground rave. But, with the irreverent lyrics of recent single “Fashion Model Art” poking fun at the art world, they’re clearly not too precious about maintaining a high culture reputation.

This ambivalence towards creative conventions is standard for musicians who, like Haiku Hands, who grew up online. Similarly, their tendency to mix styles as disparate as hiphop, indie and feminist punk speaks to a non-hierarchical, digital-immersed ethos. To celebrate the influence that the Internet has had on their sound, the Aussie trio caught up with HUNGER for a high-speed DM convo about their fave meme of the moment, picking a Hotmail username and the app they can’t stop using.
