Here’s how Chanel’s makeup artists created Gisele Bündchen and Margot Robbie’s glowing Met Gala beauty looks
It’s all about the natural summer glow and micro-french mani according to the experts at Chanel beauty.
This Met Gala ‘23, ‘no makeup’ beauty was in full swing – and it was all about achieving the perfect natural glow to last all night. Two of Chanel’s long time muses, Gisele Bündchen and Margot Robbie, embodied the fashion house’s beauty ethos with their radiant and fresh looks.
Makeup artist Georgi Sandev was “truly inspired by Gisele’s incredible natural glow, which is so pure and captivating.” Bündchen donned an archival bridal gown from Lagerfeld’s SS07 Chanel couture show. The statement piece was embellished with feathers and camellia flower detailing, meaning Sandev had to create a beauty look to “complement it in the best way. We would have to keep the beauty look fresh and slightly undone, so the complete image is modern and cool.”
Sandev highlighted the face, shoulders and chest area with the CHANEL Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Golden Light. He says that the recommended high-shine areas such as the under-eyes, around the nose and base of the forehead should be the only zones being powdered to retain that natural glow elsewhere. Accentuating the eyes without making them the statement required “a touch of winged eyeliner using CHANEL Calligraphie de CHANEL Longwear Intense Cream Eyeliner in Hyperblack starting only from the outer end of the eyes, not all over the eyelid,” elaborated Sandev.
Margot Robbie, who was wearing a one-shouldered black gown from the house’s SS93 couture collection, opted for a stronger eye to pair with her luminous skin, and makeup artist Pati Dubroff used two mascara to achieve the look. Whilst the “clean, glowy fresh and heightened perfection” inspiration was certainly achieved, Dubroff was aiming to “mimic her CHANEL dress” with the skin, keeping “strategic in placing shine in certain areas of her face.” By accentuating her natural cheekbones, Dubroff “used the peachy shade from CHANEL Les 4 Rouges Yeux et Joues Eyeshadow and Blush Palette in Tendresse on the apples of her cheek and laid CHANEL Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Jersey on top.”
Both Bündchen and Robbie also had the perfect ‘clean girl’ manicure, detailing a new era for the shiny manicure. Bündchen’s nails by Ashlie Johnson were all about the “healthiest, plumping pink”, whilst Robbie and her nail artist Tom Bachik were focusing on the “micro-french moment”.
