HUNGER PREMIERE: Melisa Whiskey is the new queen of Afropop with ‘Ajeh’

Since bursting on to the scene a few years back, Melisa Whiskey has brought some much needed sass to the Afrobeats and R&B scene. The Hackney-born, Camden raised singer takes inspiration from Lauryn Hill, Fela Kuti and Skepta, keeping a strong connection with her Nigerian roots via collaborations with Naija producers including E-Kelly and Mystro.

Having spent much of the last year cooking up sounds in the studios of Lagos, Melisa is ready to come through with new fire, in the form of ‘Ajeh’. Produced with Wizkid collaborator Mystro, ‘Ajeh’ is a Yoruba term meaning ‘evil doer’ – but this bouncy, late summer anthem is about the opposite: shaking off all those bad vibes from your life, and having nothing but a good time.

The video, premiering exclusively on HUNGER below, sees Melisa get the party started with her crew in neon hues, and take her rightful place on the throne as the new queen of Afropop.
