HUNGER WANTS: Etnia Barcelona’s tribute to David Bowie

A limited edition capsule collection paying homage to the inimitable style icon.

An inspiration for the ages, David Bowie’s legacy is as important to fashion as it is to music. A champion of artists, outsiders and free thinkers, Bowie is a fitting muse for Etnia Barcelona, a brand who loves to create outside the box. Free-spirited and full of rebellion, Bowie and his unique stage personas championed creativity and celebrated idiosyncrasy.

Following in these footsteps, Etnia Barcelona wants to send out a message to us all: “take control of what makes you unique and authentic, and show it to the world with pride”. Viewing Bowie as the exemplification of this mantra, Etnia has created a vibrant range of sunglasses paying homage to two of the star’s most significant alter egos: Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke.

For fall/winter 2019, the I’MPERFECT campaign is a cutting edge homage to the London-born singer, innovating his aesthetic into designs which reminisce his presence without being cosplay-esque. Staying as cool as he was, the A David Bowie Tribute collection by Etnia Barcelona includes two models (Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke) in six different designs, each as Starman-worthy as the next.

Ziggy Stardust is the more audacious model of the collection: inspired by the Glam era of Bowie’s, the three colours replicate three of the icon’s signature looks. “Mottled using a mix of colors reminiscent of his iconic stripes and the shoulder padded ‘spacesuit’ that he wore on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust Tour;”, Etnia tells us, as well as some “black with silver stripes, inspired by the patent leather bodysuit he wore on the Aladdin Sane Tour and, last but not least, white and blue translucent acetate reminiscent of Bowie’s own glasses from this period.” For The Thin White Duke, the brand has gone sleek, inspired by the famous glasses David Bowie wore in The Man Who Fell to Earth.
