In celebration of Pride Parade on July 6 and Black Pride on July 7, HUNGER has picked out a selection of our favourite events to attend across the weekend.
Drawing Claudio
Calling artists of all abilities, Pride in London is running a life drawing class this Thursday evening! Welcoming Claudio Insalaca to life model at this event, there will be materials provided with food and drink available at the bar.
This summer marks 50 years since the Stonewall Riots in New York, the event that laid the groundwork for gay liberation and Pride movements. The life drawing class aims to channel this spirit of rebellion and recognition and highlight the beauty in difference.

AZ Mag Live: The Official UKBP Pre-Party
AZ magazine joins forces with UK Black Pride to give you the official pre-party to kick start your Pride Weekend.
With performances from lyricist; Tinyman, sing-songwriter-producer; Atlantis Gandhi, powerful poet; Tanaka and much more.
The pre-party is going to be hosted by AZ Mag’s very own Tee Ali and will be a celebration of POC performers.
Join the AZ Mag UKBP Pre-Party at Ace Hotel for a night of infinite Pride fun.
Purchasing a ticket at the event will cover a ticket for a QTIPOC (Queer, Transgender and Intersex People Of Colour). If you are QTIPOC and unable to afford a ticket email contact@azmag.co.uk.

Screening: The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert
An exclusive screening of the feel-good classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the hilarious film following a transgender woman and two drag performers travel across the Outback to put on the show of a lifetime. This gem is a heart-warming story featuring outrageous costumes, fabulous feathers and a string of dance floor classics.
Organised by Pride in London, this is the perfect way to not only spend a Thursday evening but also off kick off the weekend of Pride celebrations.
All proceedings from ticket sales will be donated to the LGBT rights charity, Stonewall.

‘BEYOND “There’s always a black issue Dear”’ X VFD X UKBP
In the lead up to Black Pride 2019, VFD (Vogue Fabrics Dalston) present the first ever community screening of the award-winning ‘BEYOND “There’s always a black issue Dear”’. The film is a celebration of the particular influence the Black LGBTQI culture has had on dance, fashion, fine art, music and language, many of which have been appropriated by mainstream culture.
The film features interviews with queer members of the British black community, looking back at their experiences growing up in the 1960s and 70s: “Often copied, never bettered. Living out loud in Thatcher’s Britain. Unapologetically black. Proudly LGBTQI. A cultural scene reunites to tell how it was.”
As well as the screening there will also be a Q&A with the director and members of the cast.
All money taken on the door will go toward further production costs of the film and for those unable to donate there is a comp list available.

Hungama: PRIDE PARTY
Come party this Friday with Hungama, East London’s gay Bollywood and hip-hop night at Dalston Superstore.
With the category RAJASTHANI RAINBOWS – COME BE LOUD, QUEER, ASIAN AND SICKENING, you know it’s going to be a night to remember.
The night features special guest My Panda Shall Fly and Hungama’s resident DJs.

POETRY LGBT X VFD X UKBP
Fancy some Friday night poetry? VFD hosts the event Poetry LGBT and its afterparty this weekend.
Poetry LGBT is a warm and welcoming space for the LGBTIQ+ community, inviting members to come together and share their experiences through spoken word and poetry.
Andreena Leeanne started Poetry LGBT Open Mic Night in January 2015, it has transformed into a hub of support and creativity, open to poets, singers, rappers and musicians. Up to 15 poets will have five minutes to share their poems, while there are three-minute slots available for singers, rappers, comedians, magicians, drag queens and drag kings.

A percentage of the door takings will go to UK Black Pride, there will also be a comp list for those that cannot afford the fee.

Arrows Of Desire – group art show celebrating contemporary artists’ interpretation of Saint Sebastian: martyr, patron saint, queer icon
Arrows of Desire is a group exhibition and two-week celebration of Saint Sebastian, an early Christian saint, martyr and queer icon. Thirty emerging and established international contemporary artists re-interpret the image of Sebastian. In a variety of medias, the interpretations include paintings, textiles, sculpture, performance and video.
It’s believed that Sebastian died during the Roman emperor Diocletian’s persecutions of Christians, the emperor had ordered for Sebastian’s execution, where he was tied to a tree and shot at with arrows. By the end of the execution, his body was described as “full of arrows as an urchin.”
Arrows of Desire explores universal themes of sex, religion and persecution, with narratives focused on LGBTQ, BDSM and figurative art the work is undoubtedly bold, uncensored and controversial.
The exhibition will be a showcase of sensitively considered and executed art pieces, often exploring the ambiguous relationship of patronship and how it manifests itself artistically.

Tuttii Fruitti pop-up TRANSFORMATION PARLOUR
Deptford hairdressers, Tutti Fruitti, will be supplying the best pre-Pride makeovers to make sure everyone is looking ‘Rainbeautified’ on Saturday morning!
Clown mad Tuttii Fruitti specialises in total hair make-overs, transforming the dullest of looks into colourful masterpieces.
The pop-up salon will work by pay what you want system, with all proceeds being donated to Stonewall Charity. Appointments will be made on a first come, first serve basis.

Pride Dance Party
If you want to keep the party going, come dance your socks off with Honey Dijon and Horse Meat Disco at E1’s Pride after party.
A showcase of the best of London nightlife’s pumping underbelly, the party is a love triangle between three intuitions; queer club culture phenomenon Horse Meat Disco, Luke Solomon’s sublimely left-of-centre label Classic and Percolate, the grassroots party-starters.
If you want to come down and boogie in E1’s lofty warehouses make sure to grab your ticket soon because they’re selling fast.

UK Black Pride – Our Yard
Join the likes of BBZ, Pxssy Palace and Vibrate in joy, protest and pride at OUR YARD in Village Underground.
OUR YARD was founded to create more spaces for QTIPOC (Queer, Transgender and Intersex People Of Colour) people to party and find community in. Goldsnap, BBZ, Pxxy Palace and Vibrate have teamed together to celebrate a space for these communities over Pride and also create an event specifically for queer woman, trans and non-binary folk of colour.
As the party centres the lives and experiences of queer women, trans and non-binary people of colour there will be a zero-tolerance policy to any behaviour deemed as sexual harassment or discriminative.
Ticket price will also be based on honesty and trust, but OUR YARD politely requests that you pay based on how you identify and what you can afford.

Campbell Addy’s Engender part of Get Up Stand Up Now at Somerset House
Can art cure a hangover? It’s worth a try with Campbell Addy’s Engender.
Part of the ground-breaking Get Up Stand Up Now event celebrating 50 years of black creativity at Somerset House, Addy is showcasing his photography series beautifully and tastefully exploring the transition of liberation from past LGBTQI+ artists to the generation.
Engender is a series of stylised portraits, in which Addy reflects the image of a character that raises questions and/or answers surrounding the life of queer artists of colour. The series will pay homage to the artists who paved the way for certain works to be now viewed in mainstream media.

Celebrating the 13th anniversary of Black Pride festivities in the UK, Village Underground is hosting the event’s official after party!
The night will be a showcase of black DJs and performers from all of your favourite queer club nights, and a celebration of all the beautiful representations of what it means to be Black and LGBT+.
