HUNGER’s MVP of the week

Welcome to HUNGER's Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what's hot, what's not, and what needs to be on your radar…

If you’re looking to add a little colour to the rest of your summer fits then look no further than the new Lee x The Hundreds collab. The capsule combines the classic denim look that Lee is known for with a splash of vibrancy from California streetwear brand, The Hundreds. The collab offers a fresh take on key silhouettes inspired by the west coast and the brands’ original roots. Pieces in the collection include graphic t-shirts, pullover hoodies and matching embroidered denim sets, all coming in bold colours to ensure you stand out for the rest of the summer and beyond.

Next up is digital artist Maxim Zhestkov’s first solo exhibition, titled waves, which will take place at W1 Curates, Flannels Oxford Street. The artist’s work will be displayed across three floors of bespoke LED screens and on every wall of the interior of the store, ensuring an incredibly immersive experience. The exhibition centres around the notion that waves of energy are present in our digital and physical environments and can cause subtle changes and shifts in the world around us. The visually striking exhibition is open now and runs until September 7th.

Representing the world of film this week is Venice At Dawn, directed by Jamie Adams. The flick sees Gretta Bellamacina (This Sceptred Isle) and Fabien Frankel take the lead roles in this unapologetically British film. Other Cast members include Sophie Kennedy Clark, Tanya Burr, Celyn Jones, Tom Basden and Nick Helm. The plot revolves around Sally (Bellamacina) and Dixon (Frankle), two thieves who meet in a bar. After a few too many drinks they decide to steal a valuable painting from Sally’s ex-boyfriend Stephen (Tom Basden). Although, of course, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Venice At Dawn premieres at The Everyman cinema on August 30th.

As festival season reaches its climax, it might be time to go all out with the few we have left. And what better way to do that than with KOKO Backstage at All Points East? The iconic Camden venue will be taking over the VIP area at the festival to sprinkle a little luxury to your weekend. The exclusive area will include DJs, a Casamigos tequila bar, art displays and food by executive chef Andreas Engberg (which will hopefully soak up all those tequilas). Of course, there’s also the welcome edition of the festival itself, which has cemented itself as a staple in any UK festival goers calendar. This Saturday (August 27th) sees the legendary Disclosure headlining while a slew of other stars including Charli XCX and James Blake will also be performing. Sunday’s (August 28th) lineup is just as impressive, with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds set to light up Victoria Park in the headline slot and close out All Points East in style.

The title of this week’s MVP goes to HOMECOMING and Jameson’s upcoming #ALLCONNECT tour. The tour also sees Patta come in as creative collaborators and is set to bring African talents onto a global stage with shows in London, Atlanta and Lagos. The tour kicks off in London on Monday (August 29th) and sees a plethora of talent take to the stage including DJs Julie Adenuga and Izzy Bossy, who will be repping their hometown. Nigerian rising artist Teezee, who has spent time living in London and Lagos, is also set to make an appearance and will no doubt be looking to leave his mark. The rest of the tour continues in September with the Atlanta show taking place on September 3rd before culminating with a final show in Lagos on September 11th.
