HUNGER’s MVP of the week

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

Kicking off our first MVP of the week for February is London-based Korean menswear brand Jekeun – who have recently released their stunning AW23 collection. The collection sees creative director Jekeun Cho take heavy inspiration from the 1999 Korean cinema classic Attack The Gas Station. Cho explores the human psyche, focusing on the relationship between our true selves with the outer self we present to the world – using the film’s quartet of protagonists as a creative vehicle. The collection sees punk-inspired looks from old English chore jackets adorned in red plaid with faux fur collars and leather rope fastening, while a uniquely dystopian vest top covered in keyrings counts for the collection’s standout piece.

Iconic headwear brand New Era have dropped off its latest NBA headwear and apparel collection inspired by bold, in-your-face prints. Featuring the Chicago Bulls, the LA Lakers, and the Brooklyn Nets, New Era’s latest NBA instalment puts graphic prints and logos front and centre. Headwear offerings include bucket hats, snapback 9FIFTY and curved brim 9FORTY caps – all of which feature the aforementioned team logos and colours. On the clothing side, logo-heavy t-shirts, outerwear, and a windbreaker tracksuit complete the release, ensuring you’ll always stay fresh on the courtside. The entire collection is now available to shop online.

Next up, we have a new visual from rising London-based talent SUMMER ALONE, for his 2022 track ‘heartbreak in nyc.’ The gritty track sees the artist reflect on a number of personal struggles, including substance abuse, fear of rejection, and anxiety. Despite the gloomy subject matter, the track is juxtaposed by its groovy string-led production, allowing the musician’s vocals to float effortlessly through a half-sung, half-rapped delivery. The video, which is shot in New York, of course, provides the perfect partner for the track’s sonics with its crackly noir aesthetics.

Finally, this week’s MVP is awarded to the ‘Godfather of Street Art,’ Richard Hambleton, who is featured in a new exhibition displaying his works titled Mr Wonderful. Hambleton was a critically acclaimed artist known for his unique take on the medium, becoming a pioneer in the world of street art alongside the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat. His latest exhibition features the title piece ‘Mr Wonderful, 1984,’ which is widely considered the artist’s magnum opus. That piece has only ever been exhibited twice since its inception and has remained in the same collection ever since being acquired in 1984 by Hambleton’s friend Ronald Sosinski. The Mr Wonderful exhibition is open to the public at Woodbury House, Mayfair, from February 3rd until February 28th and is accessible by appointment only. To make an appointment, contact gallery@woodburyhouseart.com or call 0203 750 2222.
