What better way to kick off our MVP of the week than with yet another standout style from Converse? Next up, we have rising Croydon rapper BZ, who returned with his first single of 2023 this week, ‘Get Paid.’ The rich, classic instrumental provides the perfect backdrop for BZ to lay down his always captivating and incredibly catchy bars – alongside a typically effortless smooth flow, of course. A music video shot in Ghana accompanies the track, where we see the artist take on the role of The African Robin Hood. As always with BZ, the visuals are breathtaking, with the rapper taking us through various cinematic backdrops throughout the country, even momentarily appearing on horseback.
Finally, taking the crown as this week’s MVP is Birmingham-born, London-based talent Wesley Joseph, who today released his long-awaited sophomore project, GLOW. The multi-hyphenate – who recently featured in HUNGER’s and Amazon Music’s Breakthrough UK Artists To Watch 2023 – has cemented himself as one of the country’s most exciting artists on the rise today. Opening with the title track, Joseph sets the tone with an ethereal tune that allows the musician’s incredible vocal range to take centre stage, and cuts like ‘HIATUS’ and ‘25’ see the star show off his knack for cutthroat lyricism. Meanwhile, the remainder of the album provides the ultimate display of Joseph’s talents in all facets as he explores everything from autotune-soaked psychedelia to booming trap and sensual slow jams.
